Faced Challenges

Earlier, the client had set up a team that maintained log books manually. These log books had their share of limitations. Firstly, the logbooks did not offer valuable insights into the overall OpEx and daily operational expenses. On top of this, the maritime industry's gradual digitalization demanded intelligent log bookkeeping compliant with SOLAS, IMO and MARPOL. All of this made the client confident that a digital solution to logbook maintenance is required.

Our team started with intense research work studying the ins and outs of their operations. They studied their reports to understand the nature of the information they deal with. This extensive research work formed the basis on which we developed this software.

The software is chiefly divided into three reports:

Auxiliary Engines Report

  • This logbook highlights the performance of the central engines on any given day
  • The graphs are well-illustrated with different colours making report reading easier.
  • The user is provided seamless access to the report with flexibility in selecting multiple ships and preferred duration.
  • The various parameters, such as oil pressure, gov index, load, and so on are curated in the report.
  • The user can select the parameters as per his requirement and view the respective logbook record.

Main Engines Report

  • This report consists of the logbook data about the main engines. Similar to auxiliary reports, this logbook provides access to reports of multiple ships.
  • The user can change the time intervals for a detailed overview of the performance.
  • Along with time and engines, the user can also select the preferred parameters he needs to monitor.
  • The report highlights various main engine parameters such as distance covered, engine speed, oil pressure, gov index, propulsion ship and engine temperature, etc.
  • By selecting the parameters, engines and desired time frame, the user gets a richly visualized overview of the main engines' overall performance.

Noon Record

  • This report is filled by the users every day at 12.
  • All the machines' essential readings and crucial parameters such as distance, average speed, and wind force and propulsion performance are entered in this report.
  • The user can also know the amount of oil the engines are consuming.
  • The complete overview of these reports gives a clear understanding of the ships and engines' holistic performance.
  • Additionally, the record also maintains garbage disposal data divided into various categories.
  • This record shows the ships' average RPM and other crucial parameters giving a concise overview of complete garbage management.

Final Result

With carefully curated reports and richly visualized graphs, Campbell can now monitor and regulate their engines and ships with great ease. The reports give a concise overview of the essential parameters of the ship. This helps them get an advanced understanding of the inner-workings of the machines. As opposed to how it was earlier, the garbage management reports help them thoroughly monitor the garbage disposal.

They are now able to visualize both the structured as well as non-structured data points across different logbooks.
